Dal 2 aprile al 3 maggio, il Museo Fondazione Luciana Matalon ospita la mostra collettiva MOTTAINAI, a cura di Michele Gambolò.
Mottainai è un’espressione che in giapponese significa: “che spreco, che peccato sprecare!” È stata adottata da Wangari Maathai, Premio Nobel per la Pace, come slogan per la tutela dell’ambiente, perché riassume i concetti di ridurre, riutilizzare, riciclare e riparare.
Il termine, utilizzato nella vita quotidiana per indicare il rammarico per lo sperpero di risorse, tempo e qualsiasi oggetto materiale, si è esteso ai rifiuti urbani e industriali.
Negli ultimi decenni molto si è fatto per la sostenibilità dello sviluppo e il recupero: il riciclo di carta, vetro e plastica hanno raggiunto oggi un elevato livello di reimpiego grazie a una diffusa istruzione sui cicli di vita di questi elementi.
Il tema dei fanghi derivati da reflui civili e lavorazioni industriali resta tuttavia ancora escluso dalla conoscenza comune.
Da qualche anno Komatsu Seiren, una delle principali aziende tessili giapponesi, ha sviluppato una ricerca per recuperare i fanghi prodotti e il risultato è un materiale chiamato Greenbiz®, già impiegato in Giappone nella realizzazione di giardini pensili e verde verticale, grazie alle sue caratteristiche igroscopiche e di leggerezza.
La sfida lanciata ai partecipanti – artisti, architetti e designer italiani e giapponesi – è stata invitarli a esprimersi sul tema del riutilizzo dei fanghi e non solo, suggerendo nuove idee per chiudere un ciclo virtuoso intorno a una materia ancora poco conosciuta.
In mostra saranno esposti i lavori scaturiti da questa riflessione e che promuovono un efficace connubio tra arte scienza, puntando su innovazione e ricerca.

From April 2 to May 3, the Museum Foundation Luciana Matalon hosts the exhibition MOTTAINAI, curated by Michele Gambolò .
Mottainai is an expression which in Japanese means ” what a waste , what a shame to waste ! ” Has been adopted by Wangari Maathai, Nobel Peace Prize , as a slogan for the protection of the environment, because it summarizes the concepts of reduce, reuse, recycle and repair.
The term, used in everyday life to show regret for the waste of resources, time and any material object, it is extended to municipal and industrial waste.
In recent decades, much has been done for the development and sustainability of the recovery: the recycling of paper, glass and plastic have now reached a high level of reuse due to widespread education about the life cycles of these elements.
The theme of the sludge derived from wastewater civil and industrial processes, however, still excluded from common knowledge.
A few years ago Komatsu Seiren, a leading Japanese textile, developed a quest to recover the sludge produced and the result is a material called Greenbiz ®, already used in Japan in the construction of green roofs and green walls, due to its hygroscopic properties and lightness.
The challenge for the participants – artists, architects and designers, Italian and Japanese – was to invite them to express themselves on the topic of reuse of sludge and beyond, suggesting new ideas to close a virtuous cycle around a subject still little known.
The exhibition will work arising from this reflection and promoting an effective blend of art and science, focusing on innovation and research.
